Following What Pulls You This Samhain (and Halloween)

Every year, as Halloween comes around, I can feel a noticeable shift in energy. Signs from Spirit are more present, there's a strong feeling to the sensation I receive. The focus shifts from the busy times of summer to the slight slowing of fall and then a shifting of more eyes towards an inner reflection period that we get to experience in the winter seasons.

It’s also a feeling of death. Not literally. More the energy of death and rebirth. Not the cutest or very comfortable thing to feel, but necessary. I’ve experienced this in different ways recently but I am seeing a lot of death of Self around me. People leaving one phase for another, experiencing big changes. Turning away from things that just don’t work anymore and noticing things that just make you think.. Why the f*ck am I doing this? Putting up with this? Here in this moment right now?

It’s just a sign for me to pull back from DOing and sit with myself in BEing. This feeling has gotten larger as we get closer to Halloween/Samhain and the veil thins and things feel MORE. I seem to feel more attuned to certain rhythms and patterns that are flowing under our noses.

Death, endings, restructuring, cutting connections. It’s a very supportive time for reassessing. But it’s also a great time for restructuring and increasing the things that are good for your soul.

In this time, there’s a greater chance of easier communication with passed on pets and loved ones, signals and signs making their way strongly through that veil.

The magic is increased and may feel more potent. You may notice other things being heightened and your own feelings may feel more potent. Think of it like your own inner veil being lifted so that you are seeing more of your own truth.

For those of us who live intuitively and magically, Samhain isn’t just a holiday — it’s an invitation to pause, listen, and follow what truly calls us.

What’s Pulling Me This Year

This year, I’ve felt pulled toward quiet space and restructuring.

To slow down, stay home, and create calm within my own space.

Last night I got the random urge to rearrange all of my furniture like NOW, and spend some time cleaning up my space as I go — not out of obligation, but as a way to refresh the energy and make my space feel alive again. It’s a physical act of clearing, and it feels like a ritual all on its own. I’ve gathered a pile of things that an old version of me thought I would do something with, create things with, use, etc. The current version of me does not align with those plans and I can feel my gut saying NOPE when I hesitate and ask.. but will I come back to it?

I’ve also been working on a Halloween themed Knit-A-Long since October 1st, which has become both meditative and joyful. It’s so fun! I prepared my yarn in advance and pick my colors and then got a new mystery clue each day for the first 13 days of October. Each clue builds upon the next and the mystery design starts to show! I’ve really leaned into having a project to focus on because my brain just is not set up right now to go run out here loose in the wild. I need focus, something in my hands. This project has been perfect for that. Here’s a pic of my progress so far.

Another thing I’ve been doing is pulling oracle cards for guidance. I have enjoyed the boost of reassurance during this time of chaos! I also got a new dog themed tarot deck this last weekend. Does anyone want to test it out with me in a session? It’s soo cute and needs to get broken in!

I plan to carve a pumpkin later this week and will try to do one even better than my last year's pumpkin (which was so dang cool, I have to say). Here’s a glimpse of that one from last year in different lighting…

I’ve watched some cozy, spooky shows. The new series on Netflix, Interview with a Vampire, has been perfect for this season. I am a Lestat fan, he’s such an interesting character in this new series. I also am awaiting the book version so that I can get an even better idea of the story.

He’s so sassy, I love it.

I also finished season two of Wednesday on Netflix as I was chaotically rearranging my furniture and cleaning. So fun! Highly recommend that show especially if you are an Addams Family fan.

I also have really had some crafty fun with some Halloween paper crafts. I’ve simply searched around the internet for some to print out, cut, and then tape or glue together. It’s been really a cute project and something to decorate my desk space with!

In the past, I’ve celebrated Samhain with friends, and have also joined others in meditation groups — even hosted gatherings myself — but this year feels different. My energy wants simplicity, quiet, and to hermit a bit. I plan to just chill with my man and my main cool cat Franklin.

Oh and I do have costumes for Franklin (which I only put on her long enough for a cute pic). Should she be a stingray or wear her skeleton shirt? You tell me:)

There’s no right or wrong way to honor your energy during Halloween or Samhain.

Whether you crave solitude or community, ceremony or play, enjoy yourself:)

The most powerful magic is the one you make in your own quiet corner of the world.
