How I’m Choosing What to Plant: An Intuitive Approach to Gardening
Last spring and summer I didn’t plant the garden like I normally do. I was working a job that gave me no remaining energy to commit to my garden so I decided to chaos garden with wildflowers that year. I still wanted to give my land some love and the bees were happy, the faeries in the garden were grateful, the flowers were blooming and proud!
This year I have the time, energy, and the excitement to get back into planning and growing a garden. And I’m doing it a little differently this year. With gardening and intuition!
Not just with what I’m planting, but how I’m doing it and how I’m choosing what to plant.
planting intuitively: seeds, reiki, and working with the unseen
Instead of starting with a list or a plan, I’ve been letting it be a conversation. Choosing seeds intuitively by flipping through my fav seed guide, pausing when something catches my attention and noticing what I’m being drawn to.
Asking myself what draws me? What gets me curious? And I let that guide me.
choosing seeds intuitively
I’ve been moving through seed options slowly. I have a lovely catalogue that has been a joy to flip through. I notice what I linger on, what brings that spark of “woah that’s so pretty!” to me. What do I keep coming back to?
This process isn’t about planting the perfect garden or getting it all “right.” It’s about building a relationship with what I’m growing before it even goes into the soil.
bringing reiki into the garden
I’ve also been working with Reiki in my garden. It’s something I’ve done for a few years now and it’s something ANYONE can do, not just people who practice Reiki. There’s other ways to offer love and energy to your garden. It’s about inviting the garden to be a part of an energetic exchange, on another level. Because aren’t you already creating a give and take when you have a garden?
When I offer energetic support, there’s a noticeable shift. My yields have gone crazy and plants are happy. Reiki gardening for the win!
working with faeries and earth stewards
There are beings and energies that act as shepherds or guardians of your garden. Call them faeries, nature spirits, earth caregivers, whatever feels right to you.
I love the partnership I’ve created with them. I am eager to sit with them in the garden and the relationship has allowed this shared space to be positive for not only me but my plants and the fauna that live in my yard too.
You don’t have to believe anything specific for this to matter. I was in a relationship with the plants and animals in my yard before I became aware of their guardian presence.
It’s more about allowing space for the possibility that you’re not the only one participating in what’s growing. And why not get curious and lean into it? Connect with your garden.
listen to the mini podcast
If you want to hear me talk through this more personally, I recorded a podcast episode where I share what this actually looks like in real time.
if you want to go deeper
This way of working, trusting what you feel, noticing what your body picks up on, letting things be guided instead of forced, doesn’t just apply to gardening. It shows up in how you connect with your animals, your intuition, and your energy.
If you’re wanting support in actually developing that trust, I work with people in sessions where we explore this together in a really grounded, practical way.
You don’t need to have everything figured out before you begin.
Sometimes it really is as simple as noticing what you’re drawn to and letting that be enough to start.
