I didn’t plan this trip, the lake did

I stood at the edge of Lake Superior, not quite touching the water yet, sunlight warming me, the breeze a little chilly, and the sound of the waves soothing with each crash.

There was activity, movement, but also a stillness in being so near to the water.

It felt like something was meeting me.

The Call

It felt like the end point of something that had been quietly building for weeks, an invitation I finally said yes to.

About a week before this trip, I couldn’t stop thinking about getting up to Duluth.
It wasn’t logical but it just kept showing up. The water, the sunlight, the feeling of being there.

It was meant to be because my mom called me randomly and said, “Is this crazy? Do you want to go to Duluth this weekend? Let’s book something.”

Done. Yes. Let’s go. I’d already felt the call.

We had something booked a day later, a one night little escape, and plans to meet with my sister.

The drive up was lovely, a great time to chat and have quality time with my mom. So many laughs, light in spirit and some joy. I got to spend some time knitting on the sweater I am test knitting, and before I knew it, we were in Duluth.

Meeting the Water

Really, we went right to the water.

We found a lovely spot a little north of the city to park at the shoreline and get out to walk along the rocks. The boulders peeking through the rocky beach were warm from the sun, and the water was active and roaring.

As we walked to the water, we both heard the welcome from Lake Superior.

Mom loves to look for rocks, super smoothed ones, ones with the perfect shade of blue. While she did that, I walked to where the water was tickling up the shore and felt as if I was greeting a friend.

A Conversation with Lake Superior

I tapped into the lake’s energy and said, Hello again. And our convo continued like this:

Lake: Welcome back.

Me: Thank you! (walking towards the water) I don’t know if I want to get my feet wet, it’s so cold!

Lake: slight splash and spray reaches me

Me: Ok, well thanks lol

Lake: Walk in and dip your feet, I need to cleanse/greet/bless you.
(the words were layered, giving multiple meaning)

Me: Mm, I guess so. hesitates because the water is freezing and my sandals will be wet for a while after

Lake: impatience and then roaring water and huge wave comes, water reaches me and drowns my feet completely

Lake: There

Me: Thank you lol 🙂

Lake: You’re welcome. I called you here.

Me: I know, I heard you.

Lake: 🌊

As I dried off a little in the sun, I watched the waves and took some pictures. Through my sunglasses, the sparkles and light that hit the water were the deepest blue and purple, so gorgeous.

I imagined it was as if the aura of the lake was shining through.

I tried to take a picture through my sunglasses. Can you see the blue sparkles on the rocks and water?

I also took some photos with my mom, some selfies of me and the lake, and just enjoyed looking for more rocks and agates.

After the lake, I was truly relaxed.

We picked up my sister, grabbed some lunch, and went to where we were staying to relax and hang out. Just being together, no rush, no pressure.

Look at that view! The roaring of the waves was amazing to listen to.

Letting It Be Simple

The next day was slow and simple: tea, coffee, yarn, conversation.

We visited a tea shop and I stocked up on some exciting flavors, got some coffee (a decaf mocha for me, yum!), and knit while we chatted.

Check out these teas!

This mocha was delicious, but if you look closer, what do you see in the foam design?

This is what I see:

Divine feminine wielding fire 🔥 How cool!

Of course, we had to stop at the yarn store.

I love to visit one anytime I’m in Duluth and grab yarn to remind me of the trip.

This is the yarn I got, it really feels like spring to me!

On the drive home, I grabbed a juice: lemon, apple, pineapple, and ginger.

I’m usually not a ginger person (it’s a little too fiery for me), but I felt pulled to this one without really thinking about it.

I drank it so quickly! Like my body needed it. And only after drank it did I look at the name:

Soul Kick

Thank you, Spirit! I hear you.

What I Took With Me

Eventually we got home. The ride was peaceful, and we were ready to settle back in. I also had a cat that was very ready to see me again.

Overall, I’m so grateful that the invitation from Lake Superior came to fruition.

This trip felt like a reminder: that the quiet nudges, the ones that seem to come in randomly and that you don’t really have an immediate answer for, are worth listening to and will often figure themselves out.
